Mother's Mantra

I scammed this from another blog I read today. I thought it would make a few moms (and dads!) smle.

Babies Don't Keep
by Hulburt Hamilton

Mother, oh Mother, come shake out your cloth,
Empty the dustpan, poison the moth,
Hang out the washing and butter the bread.
Sew on a button and make up a bed.
Where is the mother whose house is so shocking?
She's up in the nursery, blissfully rocking.

Oh, I've grown shiftless as Little Boy Blue
(Lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo).
Dishes are waiting and bills are past due
(Pat-a-cake, darling, and peek, peekaboo)
The shopping's not done and there's nothing for stew
And out in the yard there's a hullabaloo
But I'm playing Kanga and this is my Roo.
Look! Aren't her eyes the most wonderful hue?
(Lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo).

The cleaning and scrubbing will wait till tomorrow,
For children grow up, as I've learned to my sorrow.
So quiet down, cobwebs. Dust go to sleep.
I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep.

The stairs are clear....

Tonight I had to shovel the driveway. We didn't get the 8-12" that they were predicting (perhaps it will come tomorrow?) - so it was actually sort of peaceful and relaxing. I wore my headphones and just roamed back and forth, up and down the drive.

After finishing, I stood back and looked at the house. I realized I wasn't done yet.

I creeped though house and out the sliding door to the deck. There I repeated the pattern, back and forth, up and down. Sending the bulk of the snow down the staircase.

Then, slowly, step by step - I cleared them. We always cleared them for Blue, especially in the later years when he walked a little more slowly and with caution.

It's been 8 months....but somehow - shoveling isn't complete until the stairs are clear.
